Weather enthusiasts and meteorologists gathered in a hybrid format on October 13th to listen to Dr. Harvey V. Lankford, an endocrinologist who also specializes in environmental medicine. Before his amazing presentation, the meeting minutes and announcements were read to all attendees.

As a reminder, the mid-Atlantic ChaserCon on November 6th, with a potential happy hour being hosted by the Central Virginia AMS on Friday, November 5th! More updates to follow as we get closer to the event.

Next up, it was time to listen to the main event of the evening. Dr. Lankford gave a presentation that served as a historical analysis of Dr. Paul Siple, a man who traveled to Antarctica multiple times and developed the first wind-chill index chart through rudimentary measurements. Dr. Lankford then compared Siple's work to the modern 2001 wind-chill index chart, showing that Siple's predictions and calculations were remarkably close!

When available, the recording of the meeting will be posted below. Attached are some images of Lankford's presentation. Dr. Lankford will also be presenting at the national AMS conference this year in Houston!

See you at our next meeting in December, which will be a holiday social!
