2019 Mid Atlantic Chaser Con Recap

On October 26th, weather enthusiasts and meteorologists gathered from across the mid - Atlantic for the second annual Mid - Atlantic chaser con! The event was a resounding success with amazing speakers coming from all aroud the east coast to deliver thought provoking presentations on a wide assortment of severe weather topics.


Presentation #1: A case study of the tornado outbreak in central VA from Hurricane Florence by meteorologists John Boyer from the Richmond Times Dispatch and Mike Montefusco from the National Weather Service.

Presentation #2: By Howard Bernstein, a meteorologist for WUSA - TV, who gave a presentation on one of the strongest tornadoes to hit the eastern United States, the EF4 La Plata tornado.

Presentation #3: Building trust and leveraging relationships during severe weather by John Scala, a forensic meteorologist who is part of the Central Pennsylvania Integrated Impact Team.


A one hour lunch break was then held and the chaser con resumed at 1 pm.


Presentation #4: A mini panel discussion was then held regarding the differences between storm chasing in the Mid - Atlantic and Great Plains by Andrew Smith, Chris Jackson, and Ed Sweeney.

Presentation #5: A presentation by Brad Panovich, a meteorologist for WCNC, on North Carolina's severe weather hotspot.

Presentation #6: A presentation by Jamie Morrow on NWS operations during the April 19th Mid - Atlantic severe weather outbreak.

Presentation #7: A discussion by Bill Hark, a nationally renowned storm chasing photographer, on tips and tricks to improve storm chase photography.


Our next meeting is at The Grapevine on December 12th, and is our holiday social. We can't wait to see you there!
