The Blue Ridge Chapter of the American Meteorological Society was kind enough to invite central AMS members to their meeting.

The Central Virginia Chapter was invited to the Blue Ridge Chapter’s virtual meeting on Sep29th, 2020. The invited speaker was Ashley Ballard, a meteorologist, geospatial analyst, and software developer at Meteorological Connections (METCON) and a graduate of Virginia Tech with a B.S. in Meteorology and a B.A. in Geography. Ashley gave an introduction and history of METCON from formation to present. METCON is a private meteorology company that provides geospacial and GIS solutions to climate analysis, atmospheric modeling, and weather forecasting. Among their clients is the CIA. Her role is to use GIS and other software tools to help clients understand the weather and climate in the area of question. Amber recounted her own background and professional history specifically how she used her connections and her experiences to end up where she is today. She advised and encouraged students to expand their professional connections and to be open to opportunity.
