On October 19th, weather enthusiasts and meteorologists gathered at the Math Science Innovation Center for an exciting tour of the MSIC and to see one of the Virginia Department of Enviornmental Quality's stations.
The first few minutes of the meeting began with a discussion about the drought in central VA, and the drought relief on the way from Nestor.
Our host, Carroll Ellis, who is the Geoscience Educator and Flight Director of the Challenger Learning Center at MSIC then gave a deely interesting tour of the Weather Emergency Operation Center and the Challenger Learning Center. A thought provoking discussion was then held on the "War on Earth Science" and how more resources need to me invested in the Earth Sciences.
Next, we participated in the Fujita scale activity and worked in groups to determine tornado ratings based on images of damage.
Last but not least, we toured the Virginia Department of Enviornmental Quality monitering site.
Our next meeting is Decemer 12th, which will be our chapter holiday party. We can't wait to see you there!
