On December 16th, weather enthusiasts and meteorologists gathered once again. However, this time instead of meeting at the usual Grapevine restaurant, the meeting was held in Henrico's Libbie Mill Public Library. Thank you to the Henrico library staff who helped with setting up the meeting and audio equipment!

The speaker for this meeting was David Tolleris, commonly known as DT in central VA. Mr. Tolleris has been covering central VA weather for many years and has guided Virginians through many historic weather events. Mr. Tolleris also has a Facebook page with a large following which provides weather updates.

Before the presentation could begin, the meeting minutes and treasury report were read aloud by Russ Harper and Ben Woods. After other club formalities had been complete, it was time for David's presentation about the Blizzard of 1940 to begin.

The presentation went over the Blizzard of 1940 and the historic cold stretch that accompanied it. Snowfall amounts of over 20 inches in Richmond and central VA with bone chilling sub zero temperatures and strong gusty winds hammered Virginia for the last week of the month, with all time records being broken. A more general discussion was then held on the ingredients needed for classic VA snowstorms and the different varieties they come in (Miller A, Miller B, and Miller C). The Blizzard of 1940 was a Miller C storm, which tracked just far enough east to put central VA in the bullseye while major cities to the north missed out.

The full meeting recording is attached below as well as pictures from the night taken by Hugh Elwood.

We can't wait to see you at our next meeting!
