On December 17th, weather enthusiasts and meteorologists once again gathered to share their passion for the weather.

After introductions and reminders by President Peter Effertz, Secretary-Treasurer Dan Salkovitz introduced the CVAAMS seasonal snowfall prediction contest! An email will be sent out shortly so you can give your best guess on how much snow KRIC (Richmond International Airport) will see this year (December 1 to March 30), with December 30th being the last day to send your predictions. Keep in mind that KRIC has already recorded an inch of snow this season.

Next, meteorologist in charge at the National Weather Service Wakfield Office, Jeff Orrock, gave a deeply interesting presentation on climate data and seasonal averages in Richmond, and some of the teleconnections and variables that go into making a winter forecast.

After a brief Q and A session, John Boyer, meteorologist for the Richmond Times Dispatch, hosted a Jeopardy game full of weather and holiday trivia!

Attached below is the Powerpoint from Jeff Orrock's presentation, and also a link to the meeting recording. Our next meeting will be in February and will also be online. We can't wait to see you there!
