On October 27, 2018, weather enthusiasts and professional meteorologists came from all over Virginia to be part of the first Mid-Atlantic Chaser Con. The morning first started out with a keynote presentation from Zach Daniel, chief meteorologist of CBS6. After that, Mike Montefusco, a meteorologist from NWS, provided an excellent presentation on recent tornado outbreaks in the eastern United States. Next up, the father of storm chasing, the one and only David Hoadley talked about his 62 years of storm chasing. David Hoadley went into depth about how he was self-taught to storm chase and showed the room weather forecasting tools of the '50s. After a quick lunch break, everyone was treated with a sponsor presentation from Tornado Talk. Then, Kathryn Prociv, a meteorologist for NBC news discussed turning a passion into a career. After that, Capital Weather Gang discussed storm chasing in DC and forecasting challenges in the Mid-Atlantic states that amazed many in the audience. And finally, to wrap things up, Brent Watts, from WDBJ7, talked about communicating severe weather risk in a predominantly mountain market.
This was a great event and we look forward to the next Mid-Atlantic chaser con. We would like to thank all the speakers that graciously used their time to increase our knowledge and passion for severe weather! We would also like to thank all the CVAMS members that came out last week!
Below are a few pictures from the event!
