The next meeting of the Central Virginia Chapter of the American Meteorological Society (AMS) will be at 7:00 pm, Thursday, August 20, 2020. This meeting will be held virtually via Zoom. Our speaker will be Dr. Jeff Love from the US Geomagnetic Survey (USGS) in Denver, Colorado. Dr. Love is a Research Geophysicist within the Geomagnetism Program of the USGS and the USGS Advisor for Geomagnetic Research. His research has covered a variety of subjects related to the Earth's magnetic field. He concentrates on using geomagnetic monitoring data and magnetotelluric (electromagnetic geophysical method for inferring the earth's subsurface electrical conductivity from measurements of natural geomagnetic and geoelectric field variation at the Earth's surface) survey data to evaluate geoelectric hazards that are a concern to the electric-power grid industry. He serves on a number of committees, the most important of which is the Space Weather Operations Response and Mitigation (SWORM) Subcommittee of the United States National Science and Technology Council. He will speak to us from Denver about "Geomagnetic History Recorded at Fredericksburg, Virginia".
