Happy New Year!

Thanks to Jeff Orrock at NWS Wakefield for his virtual presentation on December 17, 2021 on the Winter Pattern Influences and the Winter Outlook.

1. Snowfall Contest We are having a total snowfall contest for fun! Todd Anderson found the "Snowfall Prediction Champion" plaque from the chapter's 1990s day (see attached photo) so we are resurrecting the forecast contest. The winner will have his/her name engraved on the plaque (eat your heart out NHL's Stanley Cup!). The winner will be the one who predicts to the nearest tenth of an inch how much measured snow occurs at Richmond International Airport through March 30, 2021. There has already been an inch measured on December 7, 2020. So send your total snowfall predictions to the nearest tenth of an inch to me at dsalkovi@yahoo.com no later than January 8, 2021.

2. 2021 Meeting Dates:

Thurs Feb 25th Thurs April 22nd Thrus Jun 24th Thurs Aug 26th or Sat Aug 28th? Thurs Oct 7th (the Mid-Atlantic ChaserCon will likely be later in the month) Thurs Dec 16th

3. 2021 dues will remain as they are now: Individual: $25 Family $40 K-12: $5 College: $10

  • Please pay via check made out to the Central Virginia Chapter of the American Meteorological Society and send it to me at 1421 Avondale Avenue, Richmond, Virginia 23227-4025.

  • It turns out we can not use Venmo to accept dues payments because it requires a cell phone number which obviously the chapter does not have. I have a personal Venmo account so my number can not be used.

4. Start thinking about our Spring elections. All positions are open but the chapter president is required to be a member (Associate, Member, or Student) of the national American Meteorological Society. So don't hesitate to step up. Dan Salkovitz Secretary/Treasurer Central Virginia AMS Chapter
