Thank You To Meteorologist John Boyer!

A Central VA American Meteorological Society meeting was held Sunday, September 16, 2018. Our speaker was John Boyer, a meteorolgist who works at the Richmond Times Dispatch. We would like to sincerely thank him for generously donating his time to discuss the 1993 Petersburg tornado. Things covered in the presentation include a detailed timeline of the events that took place that day, including other tornadoes that occred in central and eastern Virginia. The enviornemnt that day was also closely analyzed and Mr. Boyer thoroughly explained how high dew points and a trough over the eastern United States provided ideal conditions for supercells that day. Property and life losses were also inspected, which led to a disucssion of improved forecast times and lower mortality rates from tornadoes. Once again, thank you to John Boyer for his excellent presentatio!
